What is Zavala Reading Rally? 

Friday, May 8th, 2015, we will stage a remarkable day-long party to celebrate reading... and it is a BIG DEAL!

This year marks our 25th year holding this event!  We have special surprises planned to mark the occasion.

All morning we will have dozens of Austin guest readers, along with individuals doing" showcases", sharing their talents and abilities with our students.  After lunch we have a full-blown, police-escorted parade around the streets, led by the UT Longhorn Band.  We will have cheerleaders, tricked out cars, and pedicabs with our top readers riding in them, a float with our Teacher of the Year, followed by over 400 children and adults - all in costumes!  The media often comes to record this positive, upbeat event.

We hope you can join us in perpetuating this rolicking celebration and hiilarity! We are looking for friends and neighbors who can give 30 minutes to be a part of this tradition, helping it grow by embracing more of our community.  We are looking for folks who…..

dance, build, cook, create, make music, make art, make cars beautiful, are dramatic or athletic (hacky sack counts), do yoga, make jokes,  (even bugs), sculpt balloons, shoot film, tell stories, are scientific, can juggle, put out fires, like to invent, work with animals, dig plants, are writers, are readers, make laws, fix paws, to name just a few.

Everything is amazing to our kids, and everyone is welcome!
